Description
Summary:Two novel methods for the indirect determination of the organophosphorous pesticide malathion by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) are described. First, the complex palladium-chlorine 2-malathion is formed and extracted in chloroform and palladium is measured by AAS. Second, an emulsion is formed from an aliquot of the previous organic phase and palladium is measured by AAS. Recovery coefficients are 99 and 100.5%, detection limits are 5 × 10 −7 and 1.8 × 10 −6 M, and precisions of 1.95 and 2.00%, respectively, are found for both methods. The methods are used to determine malathion in agricultural formulations.
