Description
Summary:The use of pressure vessels in cascade arrangement instead of the conventional single shell vessels is proposed for nuclear power reactor design, particularly in view of meeting the demand of increasing pressures and temperatures for pressurized-water reactors. The stress analysis and a procedure for the minimum weight design of irradiated cascade spherical shells are presented. A numerical example of two stage spherical shells is given to demonstrate the procedures developed as well as the need for such type of pressure vessels in nuclear power reactor design.
