Stable ‘gap’ in absorption spectra of solid solutions of organic molecules by laser irradiation
A narrow (Δ≈0.7 cm −1), long-lived (τ≈some hours) ‘gap’ in broad-band (Δ≈200 cm −1) absorption spectra of perylene and 9-aminoacridine in ethanol at 4.2 K has been discovered and investigated. The ‘gap’ is formed by laser irradiation as a result of a photoprocess leading to the ‘burning out’ of impu...

Summary: | A narrow (Δ≈0.7 cm
−1), long-lived (τ≈some hours) ‘gap’ in broad-band (Δ≈200 cm
−1) absorption spectra of perylene and 9-aminoacridine in ethanol at 4.2 K has been discovered and investigated. The ‘gap’ is formed by laser irradiation as a result of a photoprocess leading to the ‘burning out’ of impurity centres absorbing laser irradiation resonantly. The homogeneous width of the 0-0 absorption line of the separate impurity centre (Δ
ε≈0.4 cm
−1) has been assessed by the ‘gap’ width. |
