Summary:The spatial development of the polarisation state has been theoretically investigated for an initially elliptically polarised gaussian beam propagating in a nonlinear medium. We have derived expressions which display the nonlinear evolution of Stokes parameters. We have also studied the interaction between the medium and two polarised electromagnetic fields where one of the fields is a weak wave and other is a strong field.
