Summary: | The efficiency of discrimination of intensity spikes is considered on the basis of the fluctuation model of the pulse generation in a passive mode-locked solid-state laser with noninertial absorber for the case of wideband active media and a finite gain relaxation time comparable to the pump pulse duration. The ranges of the pump threshold excess and gain saturation parameters where effective mode-locking occurs are found. The variation of these ranges with increasing generation bandwidth testifies to the necessity of the transition to harder absorbers. The calculated results are in qualitative agreement with the experimental data on improvement of passive mode-locking for an Al
