Summary: | The redox potentials (ROP), electron exchanging properties (relative rate and electron exchange capacity), heat and solvent resistances of the polyhydroxyquinones (PHQ)—the products of the alkaline polymerizations of
p-,
o-benzoquinones, methyl-, phenyl- and hydroxyquinones, pyrocatechol,, hydro- and hydroxyquinones—were investigated. The ROP of partly sulphated PHQ is in the range 739–764 mV; these substances have fairly large electron exchanging activities. The introduction of strongly acid groups, and also crosslinking, increases the reactivities of these polymers in exchanges processes. The PHQ are stable enough in air (up to 200°C) and in solvents electron (up to 100°C). |
