Description
Summary:The sorption-desorption method was used to investigate the diffusion and sorption properties for solvents of butadiene-styrene block copolymers varying in composition, as well as of butadiene and styrene polymers. Different temperatures and compositions of the polymer-solvent system were found to give diffusion coefficients and sorption capacities of the block copolymers which were smaller the larger the polystyrene (PS) content. The variation in the dependence of diffusion coefficients on temperature and concentration with the block copolymer composition depend on the solubilization capacity of the diffusing molecules. The results have been interpreted within the theory of free volumes. An equation is given which satisfactorily describes the dependence of the diffusion coefficient on concentration in the block copolymer-solvent system, and also the changes in the diffusion properties of heterogeneous polymeric systems as a function of composition.
