Description
Summary:A study has been made of the effect of the composition of the ligand and the donor-acceptor characteristics of a catalytic copper complex on its activity in oxidative polycondensation of 2,6-dimethylphenol. It was found that the reaction occurs within the catalytic complex. To display catalytic properties the complex must be capable of coordinating oxygen and 2,6-dimethylphenol. A mechanism of oxidative polycondensation is proposed, involving an intermediate binuclear peroxo-complex, which explains the experimental findings.
