Summary:A study was made of thermal breakdown of polyarylate prepared from m-carboranedicarboxylic acid chloride and phenolphthalein and several compounds simulating various polymer chain segments. It was found that the chemical structure of the compounds studied influences thermal stability. An assumption was put forward concerning the possible mechanism of decomposition of polyesters containing m-carborane and model compounds.
