Summary: | IR spectroscopy has been used to examine the changes in the type of macromolecular packing existing in the amorphous and partialy crystalline zones of poly-urethanes (PU) at various distances from the surface of a solid. The most perfect packing has been found where layers are produced from dilute solutions. The perfection of packing was greater where the layer was closest to the surface of the solid. The further away from the surface, the less perfect was the packing. Large contrasts can exist in the packing arrangement even in the thinnest layers as a function of the method used, and the amount of chaos will increase with the layer thickness together with a whole range of structural changes. |
