Polydispersity of ethylene-propylene copolymers synthesized on supported ziegler catalysts
A GPC study has been made of the polydispersity of ethylene-propylene copolymers synthesized in the presence of typical ( TiCl 3· 1 3 AlCl 3, TiCl 4 ) and supported (TiCl 4 : MgO, TiCl 4 : Al 2O 3, SiO 2) Ziegler catalysts activated by Al(C 2H 5) 3. It is shown that the character of the polydispersi...

3. It is shown that the character of the polydispersity of ethylene-propylene copolymers is determined primarily by the nature of the titanium component of the catalytic complex, and in particular by the nature of the support and the composition of the monomer mixture. On the basis of a comparison of distribution curves according to the degree of polymerization of ethylene-propylene copolymers it is proposed that practically all of the titanium in active centres of the TiCl
4 : MgO catalyst are in the trivalent state, whereas a broad distribution of the valence state of titanium in active centres is characteristic of the catalyst TiCl
