Summary: | A kinetic study has been made of oxygen absorption and of structural transformations occurring in polyurethanes of various structure during photooxidation. The amount of oxygen absorbed depends on the density of the polymeric network formed by chemical bonds and on the nature of the oligoester block in the polyurethanes. Only an insignificant part of the absorbed oxygen is expended on the formation of peroxides. Most oxygen is absorbed by the sparsely crosslinked polyurethane based on an aromatic oligoester, although it forms the smallest amount of peroxides. Photooxidation causes changes in the network formed by chemical bonds. These changes depend on the nature of the initial oligoesters from which polyurethanes are synthesized. |
