Summary:The authors have studied the sorption of SO 2 in model compounds and polymers containing basic sorbing centres. A correlation is established between the coefficient of sorption of SO 2 and the basicity of the sorption centre expressed by the Gutmann donor number. The mass transfer of SO 2 mixtures in polymers of different chemical and physical structure containing basic groups has been studied. The mass transfer of SO 2 in these systems may be described by a modified model of double sorption with partial immobilization of the penetrant. The optimal physicochemical characteristics of the polymer materials have been established for the release of SO 2 from gas mixtures at low and high partial pressures of sulphur dioxide.
