Summary: | The solid-phase polymerization of cyanacetylene under γ- and UV-irradiation has been investigated. According to the IR and NMR data the structure of the polymer synthesized at ∼0° is of the type of
▪, using either of the two methods of initiation. Chain fragments with a cyclooctatriene or cycloheptatriene type structure appear in the polymer during heat treatment of radiation polycyanacetylene, and also during low temperature photopolymerization of cyanacetylene. Pyrolysis of the polymers is accompanied by crosslinking via C = C bonds, as well as by the abstraction of H atoms and nitrile groups. |
