The mechanical degradation of silk fibroin at 77 K

The mechanical degradation of the fibrillar protein-silk at 77 K has been studied. It was shown that the primary step is the rupture of the C αC in the backbone of the peptide chain and formation of -NHC αHR and CONH-radicals.
