Description
Summary:The mechanism by which liquid media that do not cause swelling act on PA-6 with a low moisture content and the effect of a plasticizing liquid on PA-6 swollen to the equilibrium extent in the same liquid during the straining of the polymer in uniaxial tension have been investigated. During deformation in the plasticizing medium, additional amounts of the liquid are incorporated in PA-6, which leads to an additional lowering of the polymer's modulus of elasticity. It is conluded that there are two mechanisms by which liquid media affect the structure and mechanical behaviour of PA-6: a volumetric mechanism (plasticization) and a surface mechanism (adsorption).
