Description
Summary:On the basis of a complex study of the transition temperatures, structure, and rheological properties of poly[bis-(trifluorethoxy)phosphazene], of M w = 1·1 × 10 7 and M w/ M n < 1· 4 , a general picture of the physical behaviour of the mesophase polymer devoid of mesogenic groups in the chains over the −150 to +250°C range is presented. The main interest is in the rheological properties of this polymer in the mesophase state. A characteristics feature of these polymers is the existence of a fluidity limit (its absolute value is inversely related to the temperature), a low melt viscosity, contraction of the jet on exit from the capillary, fibrillization when there is a sharp change in the cross-section of the viscosmetric bomb-capillary system, etc. The similarities and differences in the rheological properties of the polymer under study and filled isotropic polymers on the one hand and liquid, rigid crystalline polymers on the other are discussed.
