Summary: | Auto-wave regimes were discovered and studied in low-temperature radiation polymerization of the system cyclobutadiene-butyl chloride in the glassy state, initiated by local brittle fracture of the sample at 77 K. The rate of spreading of the polymerization reaction front increases with increasing dose of preliminary γ-irradiation, from 5 mm/s at 100 kGr to 60 mm/s at 1200 kGr; this is connected with the utilization of the potential energy accumulated in the system on low-temperature radiolysis. The polymerization in the auto-wave regime, occurring as a consequence of an inverse relation between brittle fracture and chemical transformation, starts at 77K; MM and yield of the polymer are higher than in thermoactivated polymerization. |
