Summary:The mesomorphic properties of polymers with a prolonged mesogenic group of terephthaloyl- bis-4-oxybenzoyl- bis-4′-oxybenzoate with flexible oxyethylene spacers of various length were studied. In polymers with a mesogenic group prolonged to five phenylene units separated by ester groups, the liquid-crystalline (LC) state is maintained up to 15–17 oxyethylene units in the flexible spacer, while an increase in the content of the flexible spacer in the repeat unit of the polymer chain promotes the formation of the nematic LC state.
