Description
Summary:The behaviour of a suspension of fine particles flowing in a cylindrical pipe around a fixed steel ball has been studied. An experimental technique, which is based on the dynamic equilibrium of the ball, is proposed for measuring the forces due to the gas and the dispersed phase. Experimental results show a remarkable contribution of the forces acting on the ball as a function of the operating parameters: gas superficial velocity and mass flow rate of particles. A model for particle—ball collisions is presented to interpret the physical origin of these forces.
