Determination of lattice distortions around impurities by the polarized neutron method

Diffuse scattering measurements on a Pd-1 at.% Gd alloy are used to illustrate the polarized neutron method for the study of static lattice distortions in dilute alloys. The observed displacements are in semi-quantitative agreement with theoretical values.
