Description
Summary:Some physical properties of glasses in the system xFe 2O 3 (40-x)Pb0.60B 2O 3 by mol % are investigated. The thermal treatment from room temperature up to 1400°K does not affect the amorphicity of the glass structure. The higher change in the molar volume of the studied glasses than that free from iron and the appearance of the absorption band at 540 cm -1 in the IR spectrum could reflect that the Fe 3+ ion have large affinity to take oxygen than B 3+ ion to form (FeO - 4) tetrahedra. The iron then will be introduced in the glass matrix as a former. The results show also that, the conduction mechanism in these glasses is mainly electronic. The molar volume depends mainly on the networkformer concentration of Pb 2+ and Fe 3+ ions.
