Superconductivity in Pb-based 1212 cuprates; evidence for under-doping from thermoelectric power

We have synthesized three superconducting compounds based on the Pb-1212 phase, namely (Pb 0.75Cu 0.25)Sr 2(Ca 0.5Y 0.5) Cu 2O 7−δ, (In 0.2Pb 0.55Cu 0.25)Sr 2(Ca 0.5Y 0.5)Cu 2O 7−δ and (Pb 0.75Cu 0.25)Sr 2(Ca 0.5Yb 0.5)Cu 2O 7−δ, having T c's of 40 K, 55 K and 60 K, respectively. From thermoele...

Description
Summary:We have synthesized three superconducting compounds based on the Pb-1212 phase, namely (Pb 0.75Cu 0.25)Sr 2(Ca 0.5Y 0.5) Cu 2O 7−δ, (In 0.2Pb 0.55Cu 0.25)Sr 2(Ca 0.5Y 0.5)Cu 2O 7−δ and (Pb 0.75Cu 0.25)Sr 2(Ca 0.5Yb 0.5)Cu 2O 7−δ, having T c's of 40 K, 55 K and 60 K, respectively. From thermoelectric power measurements we conclude that these Pb-1212 based materials are located in the “underdoped” region compared to YBa 2Cu 3O 7−δ. Our proposal is that still higher T c's may be possible if one can successfully introduce even greater concentrations of holes into the conducting CuO 2 plane.
