Low temperature magnetic transitions in chain germanates
Studies of the 57Fe Mossbauer effect in monoclinic FeGeO 3 between 4 K and 293 K revealed a magnetically ordered structure below 53 K. A magnetic transition was found at 14 K. Between 15 K and 53 K, the alignment of the Fe 2+ magnetic moments is apparently antiferromagnetic. Below 14 K, the moments...

Summary: | Studies of the
57Fe Mossbauer effect in monoclinic FeGeO
3 between 4 K and 293 K revealed a magnetically ordered structure below 53 K. A magnetic transition was found at 14 K. Between 15 K and 53 K, the alignment of the Fe
2+ magnetic moments is apparently antiferromagnetic. Below 14 K, the moments change their orientation abruptly to an apparently canted structure. Orthorhombic FeGeO
3 was also found to be magnetically ordered below 49–50 K, revealing a similar transition at 10–13 K as in the monoclinic phase. |
