Summary:Future objectives of waste management in a developing country such as India will be different from those in developed countries for various reasons. This paper describes a futures study into the objectives of waste management in India at the aggregate as well as sectoral levels. It employs consensus methods to generate and analyze present and future objectives of waste management in India. The objectives have been classified depending on their driver power and dependence using indirect relationship MICMAC analysis. Interpretive structural modeling has been carried out to develop a hierarchy of actions required to achieve the future objectives of waste management.
