Summary: | High field photoconduction in dye-sensitized Langmuir films has been investigated in capacitor-type junctions with various film thicknesses. It has been found that for films thicker than 400 Å the photoconduction is essentially a bulk effect due to the chromophores. A transition in the conduction mode is observed to occur near 290 K. The higher temperature mode is associated with an activation energy which is 0.35 eV larger than that for the lower temperature mode. The non-ohmic behavior is characterized by a voltage dependence of the photocurrent Δ
I of log Δ
I∝✓
V for both modes. The higher temperature mode is interpreted as a thermionic emission process in which electrons are released from the chromophores into the conduction band. The lower temperature mode is explained as a quantum mechanical hopping process. |
