Description
Summary:To study the influence of their interaction on the monolayer properties, we have investigated pure and mixed films of two thermotropic liquid crystalline substances ▪ with regard to film pressure-area F-A behaviour, monolayer stability and ability to form Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. The pure components occur only in the expanded state. At constant pressure the area drops rapidly, indicating low film stability. The mixed films form condensed films, whereby 1:1 mixtures exhibit the strongest reduction in area. These films are very stable. They can easily be transferred onto hydrophobic substrates. The LB films are to the Y type, which is confirmed by X-ray investigations.
