Summary: | On the basis of a numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations describing the flow of an incompressible fluid in a cylindrical channel with a sudden change in cross-sectional area, the drag coefficients are calculated. Problems of the choice of domain and the distance at which the losses of momentum are determined are discussed. The results indicate that, for large widenings and moderate Re numbers, falls in the dynamic pressure head, and not the static pressure, make the main contribution to the loss of momentum. |
