Description
Summary:The paper is concerned with the efficacy of oil-borne molybdenum disulphide in the lubrication of piston/cylinder pairs in reciprocating internal combustion engines. Primarily, a method for determination of the distribution of molybdenum disulphide on the walls of the cylinder, employing a radioactive element, is investigated. Results of initial work are presented. Secondly, a prototype rig, designed to assist equalisation of the running conditions of two engines, is described and the results of a first wear test presented. Proposals for future work in these fields are outlined.
