Summary: | Wear in external gear pumps, as used in hydraulic systems, is not uniformly distributed over the sliding surfaces. It is confirmed that wear occurs at regions of close clearance. Flow between these surfaces is complex, and existing fundamental wear models are not satisfactory. A proposal is given to aid the evolution of fundamental wear modelling as applied to an actual external gear pump. The approach taken is simple but does give surprisingly good correlation with experimental results. Direction is given for further research. |
