Summary:Organelle development in the tobacco ( Nicotina tabacum L. c.v. “Little Turkish”) ovary, at the time of anthesis, is incompletely differentiated. Active ovarian metabolism is evidenced by the presence of prominent ribosomes and rough endoplasmic reticula, plasmodesmata, swollen mitochondria, microbodies, and chloroplasts with sinlge membrane-bound granular components.
