Summary: | When the Transport and Road Research Laboratory's Pendulum Test is used for assessing the slip resistance of flooring materials, the results are frequently judged according to a table put forward in March 1971 by the Greater London Council's Architects Department.
The test in its current form places far too many floors in the ‘marginal’ category. Rapra Technology Ltd has developed a new test rubber (Simulated Standard Shoe Sole) which gives better discrimination on relatively smooth floors. Additionally, new test limits have been suggested for consideration by standardising authorities.
The new test rubber, known as the Four S rubber, is available commercially from Rapra Technology Ltd. Additionally, it may be directly substituted for the test rubber used with the BCRL Tortus Test for which it is intended to be a near-equivalent. |
