Summary: | A new picture processing system has been designed and constructed. It consists of a flying-spot scanner, a graf/pen (coordinate-input device of tablet type), and a storage-type CRT, which are under the control of a fast minicomputer that is connected to a medium-size general-purpose computer with filing devices. The system employs system-subsystem organization; the minicomputer and input/output devices form a satellite subsystem called GIRLS (Graphical-data Interpretation and Reconstruction in Local Satellite), which not only functions as a pre-/postprocessor but also can carry out some intelligent jobs independently of and/or cooperatively with the host. |
