Summary: | Light scattering has been measured for aqueous NaCl and propanol solutions of the polymerizable surfactants with a reactive acrylamido group. The micelle aggregation numbers for these surfactants ranged from only 2 to 6 and their micellar diameters were less than 2 nm. The anomalous small size of these micelles may be attributed to the hydrophilicity of the acrylamido group which is believed to be located close to the micellar surface. The fast rate of polymerization of these surfactants, leading to high molecular weight polysurfactants, can thus be accounted for by the proposed micellar structure. |
