Compositional dependence of the electrochemical and structural parameters in the Nasicon system (Na 1+ xSi xZr 2P 3− xO 12)

Mixed crystals of the Nasicon composition Na 1+ x Zr 2Si x P 3− x O 120.4⩽ x⩽2.8 cannot be prepared as pure monophases because free ZrO 2 always occurs as an impurity. In this paper a new solid solution is presented which is defined by the end compounds NaZr 2P 3O 12 and Na 4ZrSi 3O 10. Mixed crysta...

Description
Summary:Mixed crystals of the Nasicon composition Na 1+ x Zr 2Si x P 3− x O 120.4⩽ x⩽2.8 cannot be prepared as pure monophases because free ZrO 2 always occurs as an impurity. In this paper a new solid solution is presented which is defined by the end compounds NaZr 2P 3O 12 and Na 4ZrSi 3O 10. Mixed crystals of the composition Na 1+x Zr 2−x 3 Si x P 3−x O 12−2x 3 exhibit a pure monoclinic symmetry for 1.55⩽ x⩽3, these compounds are stable with molten sodium and have a sodium ion conductivity comparable to that of the best materials available today.
