Characterization of clay and pillared clay catalysts

High-resolution solid-state NMR (29Si and 27Al), as well as Fourier transform IR and X-ray diffraction are shown to be of considerable value in characterizing pillared clays and various un-pillared clays consisting of one or other of the following interlamellar ions: Li+, Na+, Cs+, NH+4 and Al3+. Description
Summary:High-resolution solid-state NMR (29Si and 27Al), as well as Fourier transform IR and X-ray diffraction are shown to be of considerable value in characterizing pillared clays and various un-pillared clays consisting of one or other of the following interlamellar ions: Li+, Na+, Cs+, NH+4 and Al3+. The catalytic activities of clays prior to and after pillaring are briefly discussed.
