Summary: | A novel catalytic dehydrogenative polymerization (CDHP) reaction was observed. The method leads to a new concept on the preparation of linear polyaromatic polymers. Specifically, we demonstrate this type of reaction in a synthesis of new quinoline oligomers. Experimentally, the reaction was carried out with neat 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (THQ) molecules in the presence of rhenium sulfide catalyst at the refluxing temperature of THQ, giving a high yield of products (>90%). The effect of the surface area of the rhenium sulfide in the reaction in terms of the product yield is discussed. |
