Response of smooth body, trapezoidal wire overhead (compact) conductors to wind loading

Summary: | A program is described to study the drag properties of trapezoidal and circular wire conductors in a wind tunnel and under field conditions. The wind tunnel study indicates that, at high wind speeds, the trapezoidal wire conductors have lower drag coefficients than comparable standard circular wire conductors. Details of a test site to evaluate the field performance of these two types of conductors are presented. Some typical results of the field measurements are also included. |
