Summary: | A DC electrostatic quadrupole (ESQ) accelerator is capable of producing a 2.5 MeV, 100 mA proton beam for the purpose of generating epithermal neutrons for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy. The ESQ accelerator has a strong transverse field for beam focusing and for suppressing secondary electrons and is therefore suitable for high current use. The ESQ physics is well understood and the remaining challenge ahead is in developing the proper power supply system. |
