Description
Summary:Single (particle-hole)-pair excitations, as described in the well-known Lindhard function, are restricted to a strip in the ( q, ω) plane — the so-called particle-hole continuum. We present a perturbational analysis of the dynamic dielectric function allowing a generalization of this property for n-pair contributions. Consequences for the electron energy-loss function and related quantities are discussed.
