Calorimetric measurements of the spatial component of heat deposition in targets from lead and bismuth bombarded by medium-energy protons

A calorimeter for the determination of the radial component of energy deposition has been developed and applied to measurements on 20 cm diameter lead and bismuth targets bombarded by 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2 GeV protons. The experimental parameters of the spatial component have been estimated.
