Summary:Taking the position that social workers are prepared to develop useful foster care recruitment and retention strategies, this article describes the three phases of a Virginia based project “Strategies for Recruitment and Retention of Foster Care Families.” The research phase, the planning phase and the development of multi-media models for recruitment and retention are discussed. Principles for planning and implementation are presented as well as implications for a social work approach to developing a long-term recruitment and retention strategies.
