Substitution effects of yttrium in the BISCCO (2212) system

Summary:Structural, magnetic and superconducting properties are studied in the Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca 1− x Y x Cu 2 O 8+ δ system. The samples have shown a single phase Bi 2Sr 2CaCu 2O 8+δ structure. The highest T c, 93.5 K, is observed in the x = 0.1 composition, with a decrease in T c for x up to 0.3 concentration. Superconductivity disappears in the samples with x>0.5. A sharp peak at 13 K is observed in the d.c. susceptibility measurements of the x = 1.0 sample, which is attributed to a Y 2Cu 2O 5 impurity.
