Summary: | The aim of this investigation was to examine the effects of surface finish and of augmented surfaces on the deposition of suspended particles in double pipe heat exchangers. Different surfaces were studied by changing the stainless steel central pipe in the heat exchanger. For each pipe, experiments were carried out over a range of Reynolds numbers and particle concentrations. Results were compared with the results for a plain tube and with results reported elsewhere. Generally, the effect of surface extensions was a reduction of the asymptotic fouling resistance, the extent of the reduction being dependent on the Reynolds number.
