Summary: | The framework for ground characterisation facilities identification of parameters influencing engineering behaviour. The availability of data of known reliability is an essential component, requiring specification of uncertainties arising from precision and accuracy, and the effects of interpolation. This is enabled by the integration of geostatistics with Geographical Information Systems to quantify the spatial distribution of petrophysical parameters and facilitates data audit. The sampling of probability distribution functions has been used for random data and geostatistical variograms have been successfully applied to quantify these spatial aspects. When applied to a petrophysical database in an appropriate situation, the geostatistical results help support decision making and can be used to assess the need for further investigation. |
