Description
Summary:The electronic transition moment ( R e) has been obtained for the NOγ band system (A 2Σ + - X2 ) as a function of the internuclear separation r υ′υ″ by means of light intensity measurements between 2000 and 3000 Å. The light emission was produced by electron impact on NO gas. It has been found in the present work that R e does not vary as a function of r υ′υ″ in the range 1.004 Å ⩽ r υ′υ″ ⩽ 1.165 Å. Furthermore the radiative lifetimes (τ rad) of the NO (A 2Σ +, υ′ = 0,1,2) states have been determined to be equal to 200 ± 10, 195 ± 10 and 190 ± 10 ns, respectively. Absolute values are also given for R e( r υ′υ″), (= 0.13 au), and for the band oscillator strengths f υ′υ″(= 4.04 × 10 −4 for υ′ = 0 → υ″ = 0). Our R e( r υ′υ″), f υ′υ″ and τ rad values are compared with those of other groups.
