Radiative lifetimes of the low-lying electronic states of CuF and CuCl: Identification of the excited states of CuCl

Radiative decay of the fluorescence excited by a pulsed laser has been used to measure the radiative lifetimes of excited electronic states of the isovalent CuF and CuCl diatomic molecules. Comparison of the lifetimes in CuCl with those in the better known CuF molecule leads to assign the following...

Description
Summary:Radiative decay of the fluorescence excited by a pulsed laser has been used to measure the radiative lifetimes of excited electronic states of the isovalent CuF and CuCl diatomic molecules. Comparison of the lifetimes in CuCl with those in the better known CuF molecule leads to assign the following symmetries to the excited states of CuCl: A 3Π 2 (τ = 60 μs), B 3Π 1 (τ = 3.3 μs), C 3Π 0 (τ = 3.2 μs), D 1Π (τ = 0.45 μs), E 1Σ + (τ = 0.43 μs), F 3Δ 1 (τ = 6.3 μs).
