Summary: | The steric structure of the radiation-sensitive organic copper complex N,N'-bis-salicyloyl-hydrazine (BSH) was determined with the help of a “superconducting” electron microscope where the specimen is kept at a temperature of ≈4 K. Due to an effective cryoprotection, direct images could be taken in which the 1.1 and 0.9 nm lattice lines are visible. A structure model as derived from the single crystal diffraction pattern, the direct images and the results of chemical experiments is demonstrated. |
