The composition of catalytically active centres of oxides in the double bond shift of olefins

Double bond isomerization of 1-hexene, 2-methyl-1-pentene and 3-methyl-1-pentene has been studied on CaO, La 2O 3, ZrO 2, Al 2O 3 and MoO 3, selected to represent a broad scale of acid-base properties of catalysts. Description
Summary:Double bond isomerization of 1-hexene, 2-methyl-1-pentene and 3-methyl-1-pentene has been studied on CaO, La 2O 3, ZrO 2, Al 2O 3 and MoO 3, selected to represent a broad scale of acid-base properties of catalysts. Changes in relative reactivities after partial poisoning by CO 2 and NH 3, and the results of tracer studies with deuterated oxides and olefins provided direct experimental evidence that active centre ensembles are metal ionoxide ion pairs; surface OHs are not involved, and H transfer is intramolecular on all five oxides.
