Two-dimensional behaviour and magnetic ordering in the layered compound VOCl

Description
Summary:The susceptibility of VOCl is isotropic above T N = 80.5 K and well described by a quadratic 2D-Heisenberg model with J k = -34.5 K . Neutron diffraction revealed a collinear antiferromagnetic order with a wavevector k = [ 1 2 1 2 1 2 ], the moments being along the a -axis. The order parameter follows a power law near T N with a critical exponent β = 0.143 in agreement with the 2D character and the anisotropy of the Ising type. Two magnetic structures, corresponding to a parallel and an antiparallel coupling between the two Bravais lattices coexist resulting from the particular value of the wave-vector k .
